Special Initiatives

  • Benchmarking the Business of Agriculture

Global Indicators Group is partnering with the Agriculture and Environment Services Department to develop the Benchmarking the Business of Agriculture program which will provide new metrics to better understand how regulation can affect the emergence of a stronger commercial agricultural, agribusiness, and family farming sector. The project is in its pilot phase and it covers the following thematic areas: access to inputs (seeds, fertilizer, mechanization), access to finance, access to land, access to markets (regional trade, contract farming), access to transport, access to rural electrification, ICT in agriculture and water. Benchmarking the Business of Agriculture program will mainstream gender and sustainability analysis across the indicator areas and plans to develop an indicator set for the livestock sector.

  • Benchmarking Public Procurement

The Benchmarking Public Procurement initiative assesses the accessibility and efficiency of public procurement systems against good practices globally, and identifies ways of improvement. Benchmarking Public Procurement provides new indicators to measure transaction costs incurred by public procurement, with the aim to increase tender participation and stimulate competition. The project is in its pilot phase and it covers four thematic areas: accessibility of procurement regulations, accountability and oversight mechanisms, ease of bidding for a public procurement tender and filing a complaint.
